While traveling with disabilities can be difficult, it is not impossible. There are certain events that are not missable- your child’s graduation in another state or the birth of your first grandchild. Some situations are worth traveling for despite the obstacles. Why is traveling for treatment any different?
Tips for Traveling with Disabilities
Call the Transportation Security Administration (TSA)
Did you know there is a TSA helpline designed to assist travelers with disabilities for their flight? Their toll-free number is 855-787-2227. Click here to visit their website TSA Cares.
Talk to hotels
Talk to your hotel before you book to find out how they cater to people with disabilities. Are they wheelchair accessible? Do they allow service animals if you have one?
Consult your doctor
Find out if your physician thinks you are fit for travel. Listen to their advice, and identify any health care needs that may arise during your trip.
Bring medical information
Important documents include your doctor’s contact information, list of current medication, documentation of your medical condition and whatever else you deem necessary.
